2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Hennessey HPE800 Twin Turbo SRT8

By EDITORIAL STAFF
nc-2013-jeep-cherokee-hennessey-hpe800.jpg

Taking what it has learned tuning the 6.4-liter Hemi motor in the Challenger and Charger, Hennessey has released a new high-performance package for the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. The new 392s have laid down as much as 500 hp on the dynamometer through some minor tweaks; the Hennessey HPE800 Twin-Turbo Jeep SRT8, on the other hand, is capable of 805 hp and 823 lb-ft of torque through some more serious modifications. That’s an increase of 335 hp and 358 lb-ft of torque compared to the base SRT-modified Jeep. As the name implies, the engine features forced induction; Hennessey also increased displacement from 6.4 liters to 7.0 liters.

Since it is based on the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, a full-time four-wheel-drive system is standard. The system distributes 65 percent of the torque to the rear wheels in sport mode but is capable of sending up to 100 percent of the power to one wheel if it senses slippage. This helps the 5,200-plus-pound sled rocket to 60 mph from a stop in 3.1 seconds and sprint through the quarter mile in 10.9 seconds at a trap speed of 130 mph. This blows away the base car’s 4.8-second zero-to-60-mph time and puts the Hennessey HPE800 Twin-Turbo Jeep SRT8 in the same field, at least in terms of acceleration, as extreme exotics like the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C. If your neighbors need proof of the car’s abilities, performance statistics—including 0–60-mph, one-eighth-mile, and quarter-mile times—are recorded and accessible in the car’s infotainment system.

Other performance upgrades include a beefed-up transmission and torque converter, HPE 20-inch wheels, and a lowered suspension. It also wears cross-drilled 15.1-inch rotors at the front and rear. A carbon-fiber lip spoiler, dash and engine-compartment plaque, and custom leather and Alcantara conclude the changes.

Hennessey says it will build only 24 examples of the Hennessey HPE800 Twin Turbo Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, and each will cost $235,000.

By EDITORIAL STAFF
louis-vuitton-wooden-sunglasses-0.jpg

Aside from the great backpack, there is one other item that we right away noticed in the new Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2012 Collection – the new wooden sunglasses. Some great craftsmanship went into these, combining the wooden frame with an inner metal frame, holding the lenses. The sunglasses come in two colorways and should release soon at LV stores around the globe.

Introducing The Hublot King Power Unico GMT

By EDITORIAL STAFF

hublot-unico-gmt-black.jpg

You're looking at the most interesting Hublot in a good while.  The King Power Unico GMT is a little bit Girard-Perregaux ww.tc and a little bit Urwerk 103.  The watch uses rotating satellites to display several timezones at once, though the indication is made via small red lines on the outer dial.  The movement itself is pretty impressive, if not a little confusing, but then again, most world-timers are a little tricky to read.

The Hublot King Power Unico GMT will be available in black ceramic or 18K rose gold, both sized at 48mm.  These will hit the market sometime in early 2012.

Versace opens first kids’ boutique

By EDITORIAL STAFF

2_2088761a.jpg

It has been a very good year for Versace: the H&M collaboration hit stores to round-the-block queues worldwide; they've been dressing everyone from Chloë Moretz to Heidi Klum; produced two critically acclaimed catwalk shows, and now, just before the year is out, the Italian fashion brand has opened the doors to its first children's clothing boutique in Milan.

Boasting a huge lilac and white fairground ride and littered with super-sized candy canes, the store is a one storey dedication to their kid's line, Young Versace, which launched at international children's wear exhibition Pitti Immagine Bimbo last June.

Leopard-print and Swarovski crystal baby bottles, fairytale dresses and mini-suits with silk cummerbunds are just some of the childrenswear designs which sit aside Versace's signature Medusa-head that decorates the carpets and walls.

But Versace aren't the only ones ramping up the childrenswear glamour. Last week, Alber Elbaz concluded an international pop-up shop tour in New York that saw the little girl's line, 'Lanvin Petite', visit haunts in Paris and Monaco, whilst next March French shoe-makers Roger Vivier launch a girl's shoe collection called 'Jeune Fille', selling ballet pumps for £210 a pair.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg: with kids' collections from Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, Stella McCartney and Christian Dior now on the shelves, and Victoria Beckham rumoured to be designing a line, there's never been a chicer (or more expensive) time to be a tot.

Liz Taylor's jewelry sells for record $115M

By EDITORIAL STAFF
1323768979.jpg

Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry collection fetched a record-setting $115 million—including more than $11.8 million for a pearl necklace and more than $8.8 million for a diamond ring given to her by Richard Burton—at an auction of gems and other memorabilia amassed by the late actress.

The 33.19-carat diamond ring given to Ms. Taylor by the actor she married twice, sold for $8,818,500.

The pearl, diamond and ruby necklace, known as “La Peregrina,” purchased at auction for $37,000 in 1969 by Mr. Burton for Ms. Taylor, reached the world-record price of $11,842,500. It was estimated to sell for $2 million to $3 million. The price surpassed the previous auction record for a pearl, set in 2007 at Christie's auction house in New York City with the sale of The Baroda Pearls for $7.1 million.

The ring, estimated to sell for $2.5 million to $3.5 million, was included in a collection of Ms. Taylor's necklaces, earrings, pendants and rings and other gems that went on sale Tuesday night at Christie's in New York. The ring was purchased by a private buyer from Asia, according to a Christie's spokesman.

Among the other high-profile items was a diamond bracelet given to the National Velvet and Cleopatra actress by singer Michael Jackson, with an estimated sale price of $30,000 to $50,000. It sold for $194,500. All prices include the buyer's premium.

Ms. Taylor, a screen goddess who also starred in classics such as Giant, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, died in Los Angeles in March at age 79. A jewelry lover, she had pieces from some of the most famous names in the jewelry world, including Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Chopard, in her collection.

Other sales of Ms. Taylor's art, clothing and memorabilia will be held later in the week. An online-only sale of some items runs until Saturday. Part of the proceeds will go to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, which she established in 1991 to help people living with AIDS.

Ms. Taylor's collection of impressionist and modern art is scheduled to go on sale at Christie's in London in February.
