Saudi Millionaire splurges $136,000 on Vintage Champagne at Cavalli Club, Dubai
By EDITORIAL STAFF
A Saudi millionaire splurged $136,000 on a
bottle of champagne at Dubai’s glitzy
Cavalli Club over the weekend, a UAE newspaper
reported on Tuesday.
“The Saudi Arabian and his friends guzzled” a bottle of
Louis Roederer Cristal in the early hours of
Saturday morning, the 7DAYS newspaper said, citing the club’s
manager David Lescarret,
The vintage bottle was “one of just three believed to be available worldwide,” the paper added.
Lescarret said the other two were for sale at nightclubs in New York and London. He described the unidentified Saudi national as a “well educated gentleman... who spoke several languages and ordered the bottle in French.”
According to 7DAYS, the Cristal bottle was from a “batch made in 1990 in Champagne, France,” originally intended for the Millennium celebrations.
Lescarret would not divulge the Saudi’s total bill for the night, saying only that it was “very high” and included a “luxurious dinner.”
The manager said the Cavalli club bought the champagne at a Christie’s auction house in London at a cost of around $93,000.

Perrier-Jouet Celebrates Bicentennial with World's First "Living Legacy" Champagne
By EDITORIAL STAFF
Two hundreds years is an exceptional anniversary to celebrate, and having been founded in 1811, that's exactly what Perrier-Jouët is marking this year. And to celebrate the occasion, the French champagne house is launching what is termed as the world's first "living legend" champagne.
The Perrier-Jouët Bi-Centenaire program involves a (presumably quite wealthy) buyer selecting a magnum of Perrier-Jouët's Belle Epoque 1998 champagne, which is then set down in the winery's cellars for as much as 100 years, after which the buyer's descendants are invited to pick up the finely-aged bottle. The entire process is limited to 100 bottles, each fetching a price of 10,000 euros.
The launch of the program was celebrated with a lavish feast attended by 200 guests -- including many local and international celebrities -- who enjoyed a recreation of the menu crafted for the company's centarian dinner a hundred years ago, prepared by French chef Jean-Louis Nomicos under the tutelage of his mentor Alain Ducasse.

The $100,000 Armand de Brignac 30 Liter Champagne Bottle
By EDITORIAL STAFF
The myth of King Midas, the man who was blessed (and cursed) with the ability to turn anything he touched to gold, has inspired many things but few as lavish as Midas bottle from Armand de Brignac. According to wine bottle naming code, Melchizedek is the term usually used to describe a 30-liter vessel equivalent to 40 regular-sized 750ml bottles but perhaps Midas makes more sense for this bottle which weighs in at 100 pounds.
We've written about Armand de Brignac before. The luxury Champagne from the award-winning Champagne Cattier chateau of Chigny-les-Roses, France is instantly identifiable by the dramatic Ace of Spades insignias on its bottle. In the last few years it has become a celebrity favorite. Armand de Brignac has three cuvees: Brut Gold, Rose and Blanc de Blancs.
The first Midas bottle of Armand de Brignac sold for $100,000 at the XS nightclub in Las Vegas' Encore casino. Mixed martial arts and UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez hosted his UFC 125 after-party joined by fighters Gilbert Melendez, Urijah Faber, Jake Shields, and UFC announcer Bruce Buffer. Two strongmen were needed to carry the bottle to the table of the anonymous high-roller who made the purchase. No word on what happened to the bottle afterward.

Ltd. Edition Champagne Mumm Sabre Gift Box
By EDITORIAL STAFF
Famed French champagne house G.H. Mumm, founded in 1827 and now owned by Pernod Ricard, has unveiled a chic new gift box in time for the holidays. The limited edition Sabre G.H. Mumm was designed by renowned Paris-based architect / designer Patrick Jouin. He very cleverly re-interpreted the iconic Mumm Cordon Rouge ribbon that adorns the bubbly's label as the handle of a modernistic sword for slicing the top off the bottle. The curled handle is covered in luxurious red hand-stitched leather while the blade is made of stainless steel with a blunt square end.
The set, priced at about $850, is presented in a white lacquered wood and leather box with a pull-out drawer specially designed to hold ice and keep a bottle of Cordon Rouge at the ideal temperature for serving – after you perform the ceremony of sabre-ing off the cork.

$ 275,000 Most Expensive Champagne in the World
By EDITORIAL STAFF

Shipwrecked 1907 Heidsieck $275,000
These hundred
year old bottles of Champagne from the Heidsieck vineyard in
Champagne took over eighty years to reach their destination.
Shipped to the Russian Imperial family in 1916, a shipwreck off
the coast of Finland caused this champagne to be lost at sea
until divers discovered over 200 bottles in 1997. Now they’re
finally being sold—to wealthy guests at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in
Moscow, at least. Of course, the wine’s extraordinary tale and
incredible age are what makes it the world’s most expensive
champagne.
